What is a Clinical Trial?
A clinical trial is a scientific research study that examines the safety and effectiveness of a new investigational medical treatment,
drug, or device utilizing study participants. While years are spent in laboratory and animal research to determine
the general use and safety of a new investigational medical treatment, a clinical trial studies the safety and effectiveness on study participants.
A clinical trial may reveal the investigational treatment is better than, as good as, or no better than the standard treatment
for the same condition. Or, it may confirm the discovery of a successful future treatment for a health problem which there never has been an
adequate (successful) treatment.
Clinical research trials are a partnership and a commitment between research doctors and study participants. It is the final test in a series of many
carefully controlled scientific studies completed to improve the quality of life for others in the future.
