Lovelace Scientific Resources (LSR) was established in 1987 in Albuquerque, New Mexico as a subsidiary of the Lovelace Medical Foundation as a group-practice model of medical care, education, and medical research. Since 1991 the Foundation has operated as the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute (LRRI) and functions independently of the Lovelace Health Systems.
